Social media has become such a powerful and prominent tool in our every day lives. We use it to stay connected with people, meet new people, various work tasks, and so much more. Most people don’t realize they can use these same tools to make a HUGE impact for their favorite nonprofits.
Ask For Donations
One incredibly easy way to use social media to make a difference is to ask for donations for your favorite organization. Every year on Facebook they ask if you want to set up a cause for people to donate to. Use this opportunity to collect donations for an organization or cause you are passionate about.
Share your stories that relate to your favorite organization. Maybe there was a time the organization took care of your family. On the other hand, maybe you were able to make a difference in someone else’s life because you worked with the organization. Share those parts of your journey and story. These stories, which might not seem like a big deal to you, may inspire someone to start supporting the organization or volunteering their time.
Use social media to make a difference by raising awareness about a cause you are passionate about. Whether it is something with current politics or just a lifestyle change you are passionate about be sure to promote it. Social media gives you the opportunity to share your views with others. While everyone might not agree with you, you can still make an impact and a difference in people’s lives.
Share Volunteer Opportunities
Pretty much every organization out there is looking for volunteers in some capacity. In my lifetime I think I have only run into one nonprofit that said they weren’t in need of people to help. While most places are looking for volunteers this is another easy way for you to help. Sharing Facebook posts about needing volunteers or sharing website links to volunteer sign ups can help create some buzz. However, if you really want to make a bigger impact combine this one with telling stories. This way your friends can see the opportunities and how you are already taking part to make a difference too.
Promote the Organization
One of the easiest ways you can use social media to make a difference is by simply promoting the organization. I am so thankful for the small committee we have with the Miss Grand Forks Scholarship Organization. These women have been able to help promote the organization and it only takes a few minutes of their time. Share a Facebook post. Invite people to a fundraiser event. Inviting people to simply like the Facebook page. All of these are easy ways to make a great impact.
