So I’ve been running this blog(while inconsistently) for over a year now I’ve never taken a few minutes to introduce myself and share a little about me. So Hey! I’m Nicole and here are a few fun facts about me: 1. I live in North Dakota. Born and raised in the same town and living here still. My husband and I have a house with our 4 year old fur baby, a shiba inu named Elsa. While I have loved living here we do sometimes talk about moving but we can’t quite decide where so we travel until we find the place that feels like home. 2. I love watching movies. My husband and I own over 500 movies plus we go to the movies fairly frequently. We are getting signed up for the AMC A-List this month so we can see 3 movies each week for only $20/month. Check…
After a jam packed weekend in Minneapolis we swung by the Fargo food truck festival on our way home. We went last year as well and this was the first food truck festival I had ever been too. This one is definitely on the smaller end with about a dozen trucks but I believe the only food truck festival in North Dakota. I honestly tried to stay open minded about it this time as the day before we had just went to the St Paul Food truck festival where there was 40+ food trucks but this year this one just felt like kind of a dud after the huge one the day before. It also didn’t help that it was a super gloomy and rainy day so turnout was low. The most disappointing part of this festival this year was that pretty much every single truck was the same(minus the…
One of my favorite days of the month is Helix Wine Club Night! The 2nd Thursday of every month Helix Wine & Bites hosts a wine club from 5pm-8pm and it is always a great time. I usually show up early to save a table for my friends and myself since the place is PACKED on wine club night. With $5 glasses of house wine and 20% off all appetizers and small plates I tend to have dinner there each time and get a little head start on the wine 🙂 The house sweet white is a Moscato(my fav) so needless to say I love it. I noticed some newer menu items this time around so I tried out the Firecracker Shrimp flatbread and it was seriously amazing. Jumbo shrimp, layers of cheese, and some spice made this flatbread come together really well. However, I will say far too much…
This winter I got to check out the new-ish restaurant in Grand Forks, Crooked Pint. They took over the old Green Mill location(I miss their spinach dip like no one will understand) so I was curious to see what they were going to offer. Service was pretty good considering how new they were at the time. Lets be real, I normally try to give places a few months before checking them out because there are usually a few things to work out during that period. My friend and I got there right at the end of Happy Hour so I was able to take advantage of a small discount on my order. If you don’t know me yet you should know I take serious judgement on how a place prepares their soft pretzels and beer cheese. If it’s on the menu I’m ordering it the first time I’m there and…
As I was scrolling away on Facebook one day(which I do way too often to be honest) I came across a food truck festival in the town about an hour south of where I live. Let’s be real this kind of thing doesn’t happen much in North Dakota so I was beyond excited. I mean the entire purpose of a food truck festival is to EAT so win-win for me. While North Dakota doesn’t offer a large food truck festival there were still a good dozen trucks there to try out. The Texas BBQ truck offered a fun twist on tacos with their Hollywood Street tacos. Smoked pulled pork with a fresh made mango salsa topped with a cilantro cream sauce. These were amazing! Definitely the best tacos we had between the two trucks with tacos we tried. The CzechWagon had a huge variety of different options, one of which…
So this last quarter of the year we don’t have much travel as we are saving up for LOTS of travel in 2018 so to keep things rolling I’m mixing in some travel I haven’t blogged about yet with locally owned restaurants from my hometown of Grand Forks, ND. I had a meeting for the local pageant I run earlier this week and we decided to check out the new brewhouse, Half Brothers Brewing Company. Their menu had something called a Bacon Flight on it so I was obviously intrigued right away. The place has a really good casual vibe right when you walk in and you can see where they are brewing the beer. It was pretty busy so we sat near the back where they have a small stage area. I’m personally not a beer drinker but everyone else I was with said it was great. Apparently the…
