The Gulf Shores area in Alabama is a dream destination for many in the Midwest. This beach community is known for its white sandy beaches and offers activities for all ages, indoors and outdoors, year-round. No matter when you visit you will always find something to do and enjoy.

Part of my stay was hosted by Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism. As always, all opinions are my own!

Animal Interactions at Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

Spend some time with the animals at Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. This zoo includes many different ways to get up close and personal with the animals. This 25-acre zoo is home to over 199 different species and offers free parking. Giraffe feedings are available a couple of times a day as well as animal encounters with sloths or lemurs that allow you to get up close and personal each day. Grab a bite to eat at the on-site restaurant, Savanna, or come for an evening of live music or their monthly wine pairing nights.

Visit Historic Fort Morgan

Dive into history with a visit to Historic Fort Morgan. Fort Morgan is located west of Gulf Shores on Mobile Point but is definitely worth the drive time to get there. This site has guarded Mobile Bay since 1834 and has seen numerous wars during its time. Today you can tour the site and grounds and view the many structures that remain. You’ll even be able to view Dauphin Island from the beach or when you climb up the structures. The fort and grounds are open daily from 8 am – 5 pm with the museum closing at 4 pm each day.

Drinks & Dolphins Hammock Time Tiki Tours

Enjoy a day out on the water with a private boat tour! While many boat tour options exist, Hammock Time Tiki Tours goes above and beyond to provide an incredible experience. The boat has been fitted with hammocks on the front, a tiki table in the middle, and bench seating towards the back. What makes them stand out though? They are the only tour boat with a bathroom on board! 2-hour or 4-hour options are available with public bookings and private bookings. Bring your own drinks and you might even see some dolphins up close and personal.

Mimosa Flights & Paddle Boats at High Tide Daiquiris & Mimosas

Enjoy brunch or an afternoon out in the sun at High Tide Daiquiris & Minimosa. This cute daiquiri & mimosa bar is a fun place to gather with friends, and enjoy a few drinks and some fresh snacks. They offer a variety of breakfast and lunch options ranging from creative toasts to appetizers such as lobster dip and even charcuterie boards. Their drinks offer even more fun and creativity with numerous daiquiri & mimosa flavors that you can order by the glass, pouch, bucket, or even get a variety of flavors with a flight. After some refreshments, you can rent one of their paddle boats and get some cardio in while enjoying the water.

Shop at The Wharf

Experience the one-of-a-kind shopping and entertainment space that is The Wharf. This place is a destination all in itself with dozens of stores, restaurants, an amphitheater, and more. Recent additions include a large AMC theater to catch the latest movies on the big screen as well as new local and national chain stores filling the space. This is a great spot to spend the afternoon and evening with one of the tallest ferris wheel’s in the southeast and an evening laser light show each night.

Eat by the beach at The Gulf

Enjoy a meal with a view at The Gulf. These shipping containers turned into a restaurant create a fun and unique spot to grab some food while enjoying the beach. Their menu changes with the seasons but always has a large focus on seafood and fresh ingredients with one of their most popular items being the Lobster & Shrimp roll. You’ll find everything from picnic tables to couches outside for seating. Head up to the order counter, place your order, and grab a seat and they’ll bring your meal to you.

Glass Blowing at The Hot Shop

Unlock your creative side at Alabama’s premier glass-blowing studio. The Hot Shop offers “make your own glass” classes Monday – Friday at 9 am where you can make a globe, starfish, flower, or paperweight. The instructors do a fantastic job of giving step-by-step instructions before you begin and work with you to make your custom piece the entire time. Once you’ve finished, your piece needs to cool and is available for pickup the next day or can be shipped home to you as well. If you’re not interested in a class, you can always come and just watch the artists at work making other unique pieces in the studio. This is a great activity year round but especially on a rainy day!

Spa Day at The Beach Club

Relax and unwind with a spa day at The Beach Club. This newly renovated spa offers a large variety of services to help you pamper and treat yourself during your vacation. Start with a mimosa and a dip in the hot tub in the relaxation room before your appointment begins. The Spa at The Beach Club offers everything from a variety of massages and facials to body treatments, manicures, and pedicures. No matter what relaxing service you are looking for, they have it to help create the best experience for your trip.

Visit the iconic Flora-Bama

A visit to the Gulf Shores wouldn’t be complete without spending some time at the most famous beach bar in the country. Flora-Bama has been an icon in the area since the 1960s and is open 365 days a year. Find one of the many bars and order yourself a local favorite Bushwacker before exploring the many different areas this bar has to offer. Something is always happening at Flora-Bama from live music, bingo, open mic nights, ladie’s nights, and even Sunday church services making this a popular place every day of the week.
