If you’re planning a trip to McHenry County, Illinois these are the 5 things you should be adding to your must do list!

Stay

When staying in McHenry County, Illinois look no further than the Cherry Tree Inn Bed & Breakfast in Woodstock, IL. This is probably the best bed and breakfast you will ever stay at in your life. The owners are amazing, the breakfast is absolutely amazing, and the rooms are cozy and comfortable. The most exciting part of the Cherry Tree Inn though is that this is the house from the movie Groundhog Day! Not only is the house from the movie but the town of Woodstock, IL is where the movie was actually filmed. I recommend grabbing a Groundhog Day map in the entry of the Cherry Tree Inn and taking a self guided tour around town looking at all the spots that were included in the movie.

Play

Spend the night lakeside with live music at The Quarry Cable Park.

Every weekend you can enjoy live music with views of The Quarry Cable Park area. This is a great event for date night or even for the whole family. The kids can play on the beach while everyone else enjoys the live entertainment. I recommend saving some money by ordering your tickets online in advance.

Farmers Market+ at The Dole

On Sunday make your way to Crystal Lake, IL and visit the Farmers Market+ at The Dole. Voted the best farmers market in America, this is your one stop shop for all sorts of local goodies. I enjoyed grabbing some locally made cheeses, popcorn, and enjoying a drink from the bar while just window shopping the market.

Eat

Have a break for tea at Casting Whimsy

One of my favorite places in Woodstock, IL is definitely Casting Whimsy. This place is a fun and funky local tea shop with a nerdy twist. They make all their own treats including decadent bars and fun flavored marshmallows. They also create all their tea blends which make for a unique experience every single time you stop in store or order online. I absolutely loved the tea slushy they sold and bought the tea blend to make it myself at home!

Enjoy dinner at Duke’s Alehouse & Kitchen

If you’re looking for a casual night out with incredible food Duke’s Alehouse & Kitchen in Crystal lake, IL should be your stop. I love that this restaurant sources their food from local farmers and producers. They even list who the farmers are on the menu and what items they sourced from them. Besides their great product sourcing, their entire menu is phenomenal. I highly recommend you save room for dessert as you won’t want to miss out on the amazing creations they have!
